Jerusalem City Hall
Jerusalem City Hall is located in the city's Safra Square, just off Jaffa road and adjacent to the Jaffa Gate and the Old City walls.
The city hall was built in 1993 and contains the Mayor's office and most of the municipal authorities governing and maintaining the city of Jerusalem.
The Safra Square is named for Jacob and Esther Safra, parents of the renowned Joseph and Edmund Safra, French businessmen and bank owners who funded the building of the square and the city hall building.
The prior city hall building was located on Jaffa road and built during the British Mandate period, with many of the departments dispersed around the city in other buildings.
Safra Square has hosted many fairs, events and public demonstrations, and it is considered to be one of Jerusalem's most vibrant social and political arenas. Incorporated in the square are several old buildings from different periods, as well as the Daniel Park.
