Gates to Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem
The dome of the Rock is located on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. It was originally built in 691 CE and has been refurbished and redesigned many times since. It is significant to Muslims due to traditions surrounding the rock, known as the Foundation Stone, which it is built around.
The Dome of the Rock shrine is located in the center of a large raised trapezoidal platform on top of the temple mount.
There are 8 arched entrance ways and staircases around the platform that connect the platform to the lower level of the temple mount. During the mass prayers the platform is filled with thousands of worshipers.
Around the platform area are several domes, prayer stands and wells, which are indicated in this web page. Most of them are located on the west side.
Other gates and entryways to the Temple Mount include the Mugrabi Bridge from the Western Wall plaza.
