al Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem - Dome
al-Aqsa mosque, Jerusalem. The style in which AQSA MASJID (mosque) is made is a characteristic early Islamic architecture. Besides the new construction and renovation over the time, some older elements have somehow managed to survive. One of those elements is the Mihrab at the south end which was built by Saladin Ayubi in 1187. Thus the Muslims have a lot of respect and honor for this mosque because of its sacred status and a lot of history behind it.
Some very old elements are thought to be hidden under this mosque and that area is not allowed for the open visitors.
