What is Jerusalem?
Known as the Holy City, Jerusalem is the capital city of the State of Israel and one of the holiest sites in Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Jerusalem's Old City- surrounded by walls and divided into the Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Armenian Quarters- is filled with sites of religious and historic importance. Jerusalem is home to members of all faiths, and is a popular destination for tourist visits and religious pilgrimages. Widely referenced in the Old and New Testaments, Jerusalem was named the capital of the Jewish People by biblical King David.
