Virgin Mary Tomb in Jerusalem
Mary’s Tomb, or Church of Assumption, is believed to be the final resting spot of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus. The tomb of the Virgin Mary in Jerusalem is located by Gethsemane in the valley between the Mt. Olives and the Temple Mount. The nearest Old City Gate is by the Lions Gate which is the eastern exit from the Temple Mount. The tomb commemorates Mary’s assumption and rise to the Gates of Heaven. A staircase leads down into the tomb which is embedded in the rock and in the typical Crusader style is shaped as a cross.
