Also known as Sha'ar Schem or the Nablus Gate, the Damascus Gate serves as the main entrance to Jerusalem's Old City. Connecting Jerusalem with the cities of Nablus and Damascus, the Damascus gate is located in the northern wall of the Old City. The current Damascus Gate was built by Suleiman the Great in 1537, standing atop an older Roman gate which can still be seen on site.
